Guy Ingram, - Georgia

Fulfilling the Ultimate Dream

08/31/2007

When Guy Ingram was 15 years old, one thing was certain: his passion for flight. “It’s a freedom you really don’t truly know until you become a pilot.” Ingram, a computer consultant from Georgia, was able to fulfill his passion and bring his family along for the ride.

Ingram has been a pilot for four years and owns his own 2006 Cessna Turbo Skylane 182 for his business. He spends around ninety-six percent of his time in his plane for business. The rest of that time is devoted to his family. “My children fly with me as much as they possibly can. Their idea of a good afternoon is to go flying.”

Flying has brought the entire family together. Ingram loves to fly his daughter to college and his boys to go camping. Flying plays a major part in every aspect of his life.

Where is your favorite place to fly?
Eastern New York and western Massachusetts – it’s absolutely gorgeous. You’re at 6, 7, 8,000 feet and the sky is blue and clear. It’s just absolutely breathtaking. The coloring reminds me of a big puzzle.

Has being a pilot changed your outlook on life?
Being a pilot has made me a lot more cheerful, a lot more sensitive to what’s going on around me. It has taught me to have a deep respect for weather, and other people. It’s also given me a sense of satisfaction and adventure, the freedom that it introduces in your life becomes a fundamental part of who you are.

Does being a pilot offer any new opportunities?
To me, flying opens a completely different door because it offers an opportunity to go places that I would’ve never gone before.

What are your other hobbies?
I’m a musician by heart. I also love Ohio State football, camping and spending time with my kids.

What is one thing you want to pass on to your children?
Flying is going to be something that I hand down to my children; I want to pass on the love of flying.

Is there a common thread between pilots?
The commonality all pilots have is that we’ve exercised our ultimate dream to fly.
